1. COURSE OBJECTIVES

This course covers the principles of the agile methodology and applies those principles to project management. The course introduces the principles of Agile Project Management and covers the frameworks and practices used by agile teams. Innovative ways of gathering requirements, estimation, release planning, performance metrics, and scaling are covered with the Agile Manifesto in mind. The research contents in this course include:

  • Length: 15-30 pages excluding references and appendices which can be unlimited. The number of pages also does not count the cover page and the pages of table of contents, abbreviations, and the list of tables & figures
  • The exam paper must have a cover page (with student name, class, and topic); a table of contents, a list of abbreviations, a list of tables & figures; and a list of references
  • Citations must be made clear in the paper (referencing can be in the footnotes, or in the text following Harvard citation system which can be seen here, for example, http://libweb.anglia.ac.uk/referencing/harvard.htm)
  • Criteria:

Corporate Governance Assessment Project

The instructor will distribute a corporate governance rating survey instrument (CG Rating Survey) to all students at the beginning of the session. The survey instrument was prepared by the instructor for the purpose of corporate governance rating of listed companies and it is currently in use in a number of locations. 

Each student will be assigned (by the instructor) one publicly traded company at the beginning of the session. This is the company the student will analyze and assess the corporate governance compliance and identify any weaknesses. The student will conduct research on recent corporate governance related articles about the company you have been assigned.

Persuasive Speeches (Pros and Cons)

You must choose a controversial topic and take a position either in support or in opposition. You must cite at least 5 sources in this speech (sources that meet the tests of reliability and credibility). A typed outline must be submitted prior to delivery of your speech.  This speech should demonstrate good persuasive arrangement, as well as appropriate use of logical and emotional appeals.

1. COURSE DESCRIPTION

Accounting information is essential for decision making process as accounting is considered to be the language of business. After finishing financial accounting module, students should be able to comprehend the most fundamentals of accounting. The course describes and illustrates financial accounting concepts and techniques essential to the administration of a business enterprise. The financial accounting module will provide students specific accounting practice of major elements of the financial statements in a merchandising business. The main content will cover items of financial statements such as inventory, cash, receivables, long–lived assets, bonds and other liabilities, and stockholders’ equity as well as disclosure requirements for them in financial reporting. Students will develop the basic technical skills needed to analyze financial statements through ratio analysis for financial analysis purpose.
