1. COURSE OBJECTIVES

This course provides students with a basic introduction to the concepts, methods and models used in the business analytics. Analytics is defined as the use of data, statistical analysis, quantitative methods, computer-based models and information technology to help managers gain insight about their business operations and make better, fact-based decisions. Tools and techniques of business analytics are used across many areas in a wide variety of organizations. Emphasis of the course will be on developing analytical thinking in addition to the knowledge of procedures. Students also gain a high level of proficiency of Microsoft Excel through extensive use of Microsoft Excel capabilities to various analytic problems.

  • Point for each correct answer: 0.4 – 0.5 point

 

  • Mid – term project (group work) (20%)
  • Form: Group assignment of 3-5 members 
  • Content: Conduct a survey on an social issue of your interest and analyse the results of the survey
  • Requirements : 
  • Length: 20 -30 pages excluding references and appendices which can be unlimited The number of pages also does not count the cover page and the pages of table of contents, abbreviations, and the list of tables & figures
  • The paper must have a cover page (with student name, class, and topic); a table of contents, a list of abbreviations, a list of tables & figures; and a list of references
  • Citations must be made clear in the paper (referencing can be in the footnotes, or in the text following Harvard citation system which can be seen here, for example, http://libweb.anglia.ac.uk/referencing/harvard.htm)
  • Criteria for marking:

Clear and feasible topics                 2 points

            Sufficient contents, straight to the point, logical analysis       4 points

            Use of variety of references, 1 point

            Coherent writing, precise citation 1 point

            Well-presented, good Q&A part                         2 points

  • Duration: 75 - 90 minutes

  • Point for each correct answer: 0.33 – 0.4 point
